Nam Ngum Dam 1 Day Tour from Vientiane to discover Ngam Ngum Lake that is about 80 kms far from Vientiane This day tour also offers you the chance to be in nature, take a boat trip in one of the largest man-made lakes in South-East Asia, visit local villages and the ruins of a 8-11th Century Mon-Khmer site, also a visit to Vangxang, an 11th century Buddhist archeological site, and a stop at the Zoo at Ban Keun.
Itinerary
Start at 8:00AM – 17:30PM
8h00 : Our tour guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel in Vientiane, drive north to Nam Ngum Dam that is about 80 kms far from Vientiane a huge beautiful, artificial lake was created by damming the Nam Ngum river and flooding around 250 sq Kms of forest. The lake is dotted with picturesque small islands and a cruise is well worth arranging to explore the fishing villages in different island. On the way, stop at the Hmong village to visit the Market and meet the people. Then continue to visit the Archaeological site of Vang Xang which was built during the Hmong-Khmer Empire between the 8th and 11th century. We arrive at Nam Ngum Reservoir at lunch time, your lunch will be served at the boat restaurant on the lake.
13h00 : After lunch, embark for a long tail boat ride to visit fishing villages in the islands (1.5 hours). On the way back to Vientiane, visit a traditional salt abstraction site at Ban Keun and continue to Dong Mark Khai Market where local people gather to sale wild animals and large selection of insects. Back at your hotel in Vientiane at about 17h30. End of the tour!
